Golden Light Ahead
04:59
|
|||
Let’s have a conversation
about what came before
Or we could stare into the silence
That’s what the night is for…
I’m struck with the possibility that
there might be something here
something more than friction
something more than fear
I’m a pauper and prisoner of my own desires
Temptation gets the best of me every time.
I’m a tinker and tailor. Can’t leave well enough alone
I’ve stitched a life together of sweat and bone.
Ch: I’ve been waiting a long, long time
I’ve been chasing that one thin dime (perfect rhyme)
Seeking the golden light ahead.
Pushing and forward and standing still
Watch the rain from my windowsill
Seeking the golden light ahead.
I’ve been around, and you’ve been around too.
But I’ve been around a little more.
But all those faces seem to fade away.
And I’m not keeping score.
I’m an imperfect man in an imperfect world.
Trying to get it right.
Don’t know why that’s important.
Didn’t seem that way last night.
I’m a savior or sinner on any given day.
Even the devil wouldn’t stick around; he ran away.
Yeah, I’m the guy on the floor with two left feet.
Waving wildly at the moon.
I’ve never learned the steps before, but I love the tune.
Chorus
I'm at the doorway at the end of the world
Thinking about how I'm blessed
I've got a place to hang my hat
And lay my head to rest.
I'm hanging out at the finish line
But I'm sitting out the race
I can stand the distance
But I just can't take the pace
I'm a $5 man in $10 world, no matter what the cost
If it's the good life that you want, then I'm lost
And I'm wondering what's here in this wide, wide world
And what's on the other side.
If we never get there, enjoy the ride
Chorus
Oh... I'm on my way...

Move On
03:17
|
|||
Last night was pretty messed up
Calling everybody you know
Heated words and misunderstandings
Nearly coming to blows
Maybe it’s that tender age
Not man but not a kid any more
You give his cheek a kiss goodbye
And watch him walk out the door
Half a dozen hearts displaced
A problem with the wires
I am not the captain here
Just the one who puts out the fires
Start as strangers, end estranged
And pretty tight in between
And now an angel’s on the way
No time to take a look where you’ve been
Move on, keep strong –
This no pretending
Move on, Keep strong –
To a grace unending
Move on Keep strong –
This is no rehearsal
The worlds about to take a reversal, move on
Don’t you know that it’s true
Though the sky gonna fall,
the horizon is calling to you.
I sit inside my cracker box
It’s my castle and my keep
Try and keep the moths away
Try and let the guy downstairs sleep.
I make a play for paradise
And lay my cards on the table
Funny how your life can change
In a heartbeat, if you’re able.
Move on, keep strong –
Pushin’ past the borders
Move on, keep strong –
you’re not taking orders
Move on, Keep strong,
it is your to take
The only rules are the ones you make -- move on
Move on, keep strong –
there’s no limitations
Move on, keep strong –
hold your reservations
Move on, Keep strong,
keep you head held high
You only have to say
good bye and move on

Winter Shadows
05:50
|
|||
Winter shadows climb through empty windows
It’s another day of gray; the sun is nowhere to be seen
I close my eyes and wish the clouds away,
But wishing is never what it seems…
Bare trees – the leaves are a long time gone.
Barren arms up to the sky, hope to sleep but not to die
I see my breath hang in the air
Summer’s mother cries out in despair:
“I will wait. I will wait
Six months or forever,
Whatever is your fate, I will wait…
White dusty hills, a frosty patch of frozen ground.
I trace my footsteps in the snow to a secret place I know
Open to another world
The place of darkness harkens to the girl.
I will wait. I will wait
Six months or forever,
Whatever is your fate, I will wait…
Moving into the darkness from which there’s no return
I will call you back again and we will watch the season’s turn.
Taste forbidden fruit: the sweetness of the unforeseen.
Hunger comes in many ways – sated by a stranger’s gaze
Missing in the great unknown,
Sitting on the dead king’s throne.
I will wait. I will wait
Six months or forever,
Whatever is your fate, I will wait…

Last Summers Girl
03:27
|
|||
The end of summer is just in sight,
I’m working up a healthy appetite
I always take the easy fruit in reach,
when I searching for a summer peach
Searching for that special one to break the spell of the summer sun…
She’s the got the two piece that fits her right
And a smile that’s perfect, pearly white.
Sitting on her towel and all alone
Trying to work up a copper tone
I want to say I fell then and there -- But one thing caught me unawares
I still the face of last summer’s girl
You can’t replace last summer’s girl
Your pretty eyes only remind me
Of the girl I left behind she’s
On my mind, last summer’s girl
I looked at her and she glanced at me
And we both knew it was meant to be
She said “Do my back baby if you please”
Next thing you know I was on my knees
I wrote our names together in the sand
Made out at sunset and held her hand
My feeling for her won’t ever fade away
At least not until Labor Day
She’s starting to cry - I can’t forget though I try and try and try…
But in my heart I know something’s wrong
It’s like an old familiar song
The melody is sweet and bright
But the words are not quite right
She’s walking away -While I try and think of something to say
I still the face of last summer’s girl
You can’t replace last summer’s girl
I search my thoughts but only remember
The girl who walked out last September…

Book of Love
03:14
|
|||
Write my name in the book of love and if there is a god above
Even that old man would smile and say it’s good
Write it in letters big and bold - Do it before I get too old
A hardened heart is seldom understood
Company isn’t hard to find. Fantasy plays with the mind
I won’t offer any judgment or any blame
Let me choose who I need to choose. Let me risk what is mine to lose
Grant me that, and I’ll offer you the same
Let me have my turn -- to let that passion burn
Gonna write my name, my name in the book of love (2x)
Let me say when I’m 95, I know what it means to be alive
I don’t regret any path I took
And if you stand in my way I have the grace to smile and say:
“Step aside, ‘cause my name is in that book”
Let me have my turn -- to let that passion burn
Give me one more chance -- To learn that sacred dance
Let write my name, my name in the book of love (2x)
There’s good books, big books, golden books delivered by angels
If you believe in messages from above
But the only book where a mention really matters
Is the famous, foolish, fickle book of love.
Write it in letters ten feet high. I won’t wait for the ink to dry
It takes a lifetime or happens in a flash
And if my name starts to fade away The fire inside will always stay
May this ember never turn to ash

Sky Blue
04:08
|
|||
Sky blue
If you could see the lights of London town
Would you fly like Peter Pan
Or would you gaze upon the hour glass
Counting grains of sand
Hey you, sky blue
Celebrate what you feel in the moment
It’s just what it seems
It’s true, sky blue
All the love in your life is there waiting
For you while you dream
If you could be the perfect stranger
Pinning hopes so far from home
Crossing the ocean
To unfamiliar places
Letting more than your mind roam
Chorus repeat
Wake up in the morning
Wake up to tomorrow
Wake up to the dream you hadn’t planned
Take what you’re given
Use what you borrow
Wake up to a new, fantastic land
Saying goodbye is not forever
If there’s something in your heart
A piece of me, splintered off inside you
Left behind while we’re apart
Chorus repeat
Hey you, sky blue
Keep the stars in your eyes and remember
I’ll always be here
It’s true, sky blue
If your story is one big adventure
Face forward, no fear.

Where is Home?
03:41
|
|||
Where is Home?
I stare at the compass
Its unchanging face
And I hope it will point me
To my sacred place
Is it the pastures of green and gold
the place where I began
Or the gray halls where I found love
That place to where I ran away
I look to my mother,
the one who cared for me
I look at my lover
And in his eyes I see
the home that I made when I had nothing
The place I came to chose
And I look back at the home that I left
And wonder if I lose it forever
Where is home
Turn the wheel, turn the tide, turn the seasons
You break your word and you break the world
Bare the shame, share the pain, share the reasons
That brought you here beside me.
How can you tread the line in between
The darkness and the light
Better to embrace the infinite colors
Of resolute twilight, enduring
Where is home
I don’t know anymore.
